What's Happening at
Mighty Oak Academy
Here's what's been happening at Mighty Oak Academy this week!
Last week we were excited to welcome our parents for Parent's Night! It was a great success and parents got to visit with their student's teachers and see some of the work their student's have done over the last six weeks. This week we are back from fall break and diving in to our 2nd six weeks curriculum!
2nd six weeks
This week we started the next phase in our curriculum. We will be teaching fundamental skills that students will need as we move forward into our project based learning curriculum. These next six weeks will focus on helping students understand the building blocks of learning that will set them up for success when we move into our projects phase. As we get closer to the end of the six weeks we will explain more about what project based learning looks like and how many subjects can be learned through the course of working on projects that promote critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.

Attendance
Just a reminder that it is very important that your child attend school every day. We want to ensure that every student have every opportunity to learn. Below are the list of excused and unexcused absences. If your student needs to be absent from school, please let the school know or the absence will be counted as unexcused.
Absence should be reported to the school via email or text before schools starts on the day of the absence. When calling please state the child’s name, teacher, and reason for absence.
If absences are not reported by 8:30 a.m. you will be called and/or emailed.
Excused Absence
Illness (less than 5 days without doctors note)
Religious holiday
Death of a family member
Removal of CPS/Law enforcement and related days
Healthcare Professional appointment (with note)
Court proceedings that require students presence (with documentation)
Vacations not causing an absence more than 3 days total.
Communicable Diseases: Please see communicable disease section for list of common illnesses.
Unexcused Absence
Any absence for which no excused reason is given by parent/guardian.
Failure to bring required doctors note
Doctors appointment for someone other than the child
Family reunion, wedding, other family members appointments, award ceremonies (siblings), etc.
Transportation Issues (car trouble or no one to drive)
Welfare/WIC appointments

Here is our 2021 - 2022 School Calendar. The first day of school and last day of school are highlighted in red. All Student holidays are highlighted in orange. The last day of school might change if we have an unexpected number of closures for snow over the winter.
